where does a newby start?

I have been lurking on this group for about two years after a friend who rides a KLR referred me. I have not ridden a motorcycle since I had a BSA 125 as a kid. I am 55, well over 6' at 200 lbs and am finally ready to take the plunge. I hope to find a decent KLR for $3K or less not too far from the Oklahoma City metro. A local university holds a two day beginner MC class which includes 5 hours of class time and the rest on-hands. I am mostly concerned with how and where to find a good bike, whether to go Gen I vs. Gen II, etc. Any and all advice and input is appreciated. Thanks! Paul

Hey and welcome, Disclaimer - I'm still very much a "newbie".. But, I resemble a lot of where you are now just a couple of months ago. And, this won't help much - as you'll see I went with the Gen 1 because it is a little lighter, I prefer the more Spartan look and I planned on going through the bike mechanically and dialing her in for me. So newer was not an advantage. I found a 2002 low miles, one owner for mid-2's dollar wise - BUT the PO did leave me some surprises (as will almost any/all things used inherently have). That said, the Gen 2 are definitely a more mature offering. Kawasaki worked out a few of the kinks and gave 'em a facelift. But, it probably will be tougher to find a Gen 2 under $3k unless it needs a lot - at least that was what I saw in Atlanta. I do believe either one and you'll be happy - kinda' like "well, do I want a redhead or a blonde?" And I took the class here as well - a good thing - Definitely helped me try to identify/kick some old bad habits. Hey
On my screen there is always a small (3x3+-) slide show of my pictures going on.
When you click on the full screen icon, that picture showing at the time goes full screen and then I can scroll threw.
BUT...Some pictures (Like Moad 5/13) refuse, instead a "pop-up" says, "Windows can not find it.", and that I should try searching a different number.
I can, open the full picture file, and open the same picture, that was just on the mini slide show.
Thoughts????????
