good tire patch kit? (who sells a)

Post by mark ward » Fri Oct 25, 2013 7:07 pm

Hey Y'all

just about every patch kit I see, has tiny 1inch patchs like for a bicycle.

I want car/truck tire patchs 2+ inchs and GOOD glue.

PRO tire-shop type.

My life is on the line while riding a KLR, I do not trust those child size bike kits.

My 2 cents, even a good tire patch kit is only a backup for a spare tube.  But I support your take on the patch sizes and glue quality of some kits.  Patches have got me home, but only to fail another day.   From: nomad59@... I Have, a spare front tube, (works on rear for a small time.) But then I would have had to remove ALLLLL the Camping ETC gear again and again, pull the rear tire to install a new REAR tube.   At 4:30 pm I figure a Good patch would get me home another 1400 miles, while the front in rear trick, a short distance.   I LOVE my front fender bag (FROM FREDS) with a spare front tube and Large can of spray lube for the chain, (OOP'S NEW LUBE THREAD STARTED) AND a spare tire gage tucked in with the tube AND MORE SPACE IF NEEDED. ALL EASY ACCESS.   NOTE: TWISTY TIE'S OR ZIP STRIPS should be used to keep the zippers closed.   I think the zipstrip, tightened just enough, kept on lookers from opening it, NO QUICK ACCESS, or so it looked. (a little loose I could easily still get the oil can out.)

Too bad the hot patch kits from the 50's - 70's went away. Now, I just pick up a fresh kit at least once a year. Knock on wood, I have not had a flat in several years though I keep all the goodies in my top box just in case. Not sure where I picked up my last fresh kit at.   .

I get my patches at the 'tractor supply' store. My store will sell you one or a dozen.NAPA is another source; though you might have to buy more than you want. You can get nice 2" patches and a fresh can of glue. This size will cover a pinch flat just right. Not that I would know.... It would be a good idea to put packing tape over the directions to protect the print on the glue can. sigh. The glue is particular on how it is applied and doing it incorrectly allows you to try again. At least that is what I heard. cough.

Pinch flats.   That's another reason I want BIGGER (2") patchs, they will cover a pinhole OR A PINCH HOLE.   & it was a pinch hole that I had in TN.   I had the tire off and tought DARN, NO BABY POWER to put on the tube before installing, I forgot about having a small bottle of "MONKEY BUTT" in my shower kit.   Can you say DUUUUUHHHHHHH!
