question re doo hickey?

Hi All,
I have never pulled the engine cover to check the doo hickey spring; I know that the previous owner replaced the doo hickey, so, here is my question; "If one pulls the engine cover (lower left side) is the doo hickey spring visible or does one have to pull other parts?"
All of the reading that I have done says that the spring is not visible just by pulling the engine cover?

The new style torsion doohicky spring would be easily visible by just
pulling the first front cover off. The old style spring is kind of
buried underneath. You can still see it, but it's not as obvious. I
don't know how you'd tell if it was the replacement old style spring
though. The older sets used to come with a regular style spring. They
aren't necessarily bad, but I don't know how you'd differentiate between
that and the original.
FWIW you *can* get the old style spring out without removing the second
cover, using some angled needle nose pliers.

You SHOULD clean AND DRY them on a regular basis.
DRYING, to insure mildew or just plain stagnant water, from drops inside don't at the least ruin the taste, if not get you sick. (Diarrhea)
To Dry the TUBE it is suggest, and many do, REMOVE THE MOUTH PIECE.
The TIP: after removing a few times the hose gets loose at the end so many just Cut it off.
INSTEAD, Dip the end in boiling water, about 10 seconds, It Will REFORM.
As soon as you take it out, Shake it well to get out the water you just dipped it in, In about a minute in will be dry, yet still a little warm, you can now reinsert the mouth piece with a GOOD TIGHT FIT.
NO CUTTING NEEDED. (OR replacing hose after 20+ cuts.)

There are two covers that need to come off to inspect or replace the
spring. If an adjustment is needed and the original non-torsion type spring
has room left to contract then basically all that is needed is to loosen
and tighten the bolt under the rubber plug. There is lots of info re the
"doo" if you do a bit of searching.
