tank vent
The vent valve in the fuel cap can stick. It is a simple job to either remove the rubber valve flap ( and do away with a Valve altogether ) or to check its operation.
you can do this on the bike but its easy to drop things into the tank.
2 min and 2x 6mm screws and you've got the fuel cap off , a safer option.
its also worth checking that the vent line is not pinched around the tank /seat join area and the outside end of the vent line is clear, as it can block up with mud etc.

Dang, Ron! =(
Those were mule deer, too!
On seperate occasions, I and my parents hit white tailed deer inside the small town of Concord Ga. while passing through.
Literally, you could see from one hit site to the other. They came out from between houses and BAM! Got a 74' Cutlass and a Chevy S-10.
I've worked on several bikes at my friend's shop with deer damage + one black bear crunched Gold Wing.

Deer seem to be everywhere these days. I have even seen deer crossings around here and saw a couple on the north side of my town lake. One of my greatest fears on a bike. Good reason not to see how fast your bike will go on a deserted hwy. A friend was put into the hospital last year by one southwest of Austin about 10:30 A,M. He remembered a gray flash and getting into the helicopter. It totaled his brand new BMW 800, People think they are so cute.....UUURRRGH! Bring back herds of mountain lions and wolves. Riding back from Moab about 4 years ago, I saw a downed sport bike and dead deer about sunrise just south of Chama NM. Apparently the rider died as their was a little roadside cross there the next year. Spooked me a little riding over to Taos that morning. Passed a couple deer wiggling their dumb ears at me on the edge of the road on the way over. I have almost hit two buzzards in my windshield on my Concours as the were munching on the carcass of dead deer and didn't want leave dinner until the last second. Sigh....maybe I would get back into boating? Nah.....too many Jerk Ski's.
