I was 18, Tall strong and good looking...only one of these apply today. Well as you would all know the damn pistol was seen by the ranger while I hunted for paperwork. He asked to inspect it. I pulled the clip and emptied the chamber as he sat with his humongous sidearm at the ready making sure I was on my knees doing this. When I handed him the now harmless unti. He looked it over and asked....what in the hell is this for? I said bears or other natives! He tossed it back to me and said," that will just piss them off, next time bring at least a 9 mm. Also I do know one very important thing...unless you train regularly for person to person armed conflict you are at a major disadvantage to most bad boys. The moral compass you may have may very well allow for a delay that may get you killed or lack of training may allow for serious misjudgment of the situation. >

The conventional wisdom on the gun boards I follow holds that .22rf is the preferred round for bear, black, brown or white. The reasoning follows the old rule of thumb: you don't have to outrun the bear as long as you can outrun your buddy. One .22 round to the kneecap will insure that.
(See, there is more than one old joke about bears.)

sprocket? mishap?
Serious manufacturing flaw?
Front sprockets are usually quite hard steel.
Sounds like it shattered somehow. Weird!
