Took my wheels off to have them replaced (they put them on for free if you bring in the wheels at this tire place in St. Louis). I got Heidenau K76's by the way, front and back (sadly I ride mostly road and easy gravel so far). I cleaned the chain and the sprockets and inspected the bearings and seals while I was doing that. I think all that went pretty well, and hopefully my wheels won't fall off on my next ride. I have a couple pictures and questions. I will try to post the pictures, so the questions will make sense. First, when reattaching the speedometer cable, I noticed that the cable had slipped almost all the way out of the casing. When I reattached it, at first it seemed too long, I couldn't get the female end to fit on the threaded end, even when I had the cable properly seated at the bottom. I jiggled a little and got a bit rough with it , and then finally all was good. I am hoping this means that the top end seated proplerly too. What are the chances that my speedometer won't work, because that cable slid down, and probably lost its connection up by the speedometer? The second question relates to the fact that I took all my plastics off, fenders and seat and side panels etc, disconnected all the rear electrical stuff (I'll leave out why to keep the story shorter). Then I put it all back on. Well in the picture I have several parts left over after putting everything back. My question is, please examine the picture, and let me know if these parts are necessary, and or if you know where they might go. Everything seems to have fit back together properly. Thanks Peter in St. Louis. 2008 KLR

Hi Peter,
Chances are it will work just fine usually you push it up into the sleeve and give it a turn and it will pop back in. If not, it will do it when you turn the tire. Make sure when you re-install the wheel you get the two little dogs aligned with the one on the fork, otherwise the speedo attachment will move and may break the cable.
The pictures didn't come through, but I'm sure as soon as I see them I can tell you what they are.

50/50 tires (statement)
I was asked about tires, but lost the E somehow.
If you look at, Metzler, Enduro 3 Sahara, tires they are rated 50/50 and come stock on BMW F650gs & F800gs DUALSPORT bikes, You tubing you can see what they say the bike can do.
ALOT smother & quieter then stock D606. ALOT less vibration on hands Etc., also.
Medum (6-10) of sand Mild MUD rocks gravel etc etc.
They are what I had on when I Rode 8000 miles (RT) to Seatle (Victoria) and hm. Lots of gravel roads, some sandy or muddy trails ETC ETC. (slower then MANY.) With NO issues,, and Light off rd experiance.
IN Death valley the KLR had TKC-80's 25/75? and again I was suprised what they would do.
IF I know I'm heading to heavyer sand, 4-14, ETC. Lots of loose gravel etc. I would want the TKC-80s,
For Average, roads Paved or regular PACKED dirt roads and med trails I like the 50/50 for less vibration and longer PAVED rd wear.

I ran a set of the Saharas and they were fine, they just cost more than I think they should.
