Everything? Like checking that the waterpump impeller is not slipping
on its shaft? Does the electric fan work? Head gasket ok?
When does it overheat? Slow traffic? Fast traffic?

Can you be more specific about overheating. I have read where people see the
needle on the meter at the 2:oclock position and call this overheating.
Is your needle at the far right position and in the small red square?
Normar operating temp is between 1:oclock and approx 2:30.

Are you loosing coolent? Check at the radiator, not the overflow tank. This
tank can be misleading.
If your coolant is low - are there any water leaks? Check the hole under the
waterpump.
Maybe it leaks only when your riding? Check it at idle, rev the engine some.

The first thing to check is the accuracy of the guage and sending unit. TC

I don't own a KLR650,but have seen in other engines a situation where the
water pump impeller brakes loose,or slips on the shaft that drives it.I have
also seen impeller blades brake off.Your radiator may well be partially
plugged with deposits.Yours is a 1987-thats quite a while to run a
radiator. Is it possible you have a blown head gasket-putting pressuer in your
cooling system?Have any 650 owners had this happen? Is your cooilg fan coming
on when it is supposed to?
Just some ideas to check.
