Hello, I have been using a full face Shoei for street and trail and it works pretty well. I was able to put the shield down when follwing on gravel, and I didn't have to eat quite as much dust. I would think that an MX helmet would be sucking on the highway. I am using MSR World Tour Evader boots. They are like MX boots, but have a hiking boot style sole. They offer plenty of protection, but are just too much for everyday use. They are hot, and if you don't tuck your pants into them, you have to wear real tall socks or your calves get all sweaty. Now that I'm all excited, I tell you, I am ditching the MSR's (anybody want them, size 10, excellent condition, $110 shipped) because I do mostly street riding. After the boot thread earlier, I think I'll go with the Sidi Discovery. Hope this helps. Take care, Geoff

Welcome! There are a thousand riders here, and if you pursue this thread, you'll probably get 3000 opinions, but I like my Nolan 100 flip-up. As Dual Sport bikes are a compromise, so are the helmets. -- bierdo maxrx7 wrote:

I rode the past 2 years to work on paved roads, and backroads on weekends,and I used a DOT Snell approved MX helmet and goggles all summer, no major problems. There is more noise, but I've gotten use to it. I got caught in one major thunderstorm (while wearing a tank top and shorts) and it felt like I was being shot with BB's!!! I would not recomend wearing it in real cold weather (50 degrees and below) I made that mistake back in Oct, air got in between my helmet and goggles right at my forehead, it felt like someone was drawing a knife across my forehead!!! Got a full face the next day. But other than that, they are lighter (mine is), feel real good on 100 degree days and to me, more comfortable. Used a mx last summer on a longer trip. Liked it good. Wore earplugs and carried a neoprene face mask for rain and hail. Really liked the visor for sun riding. i have an AGV mx helmet ( snell and dot apporved ). doesnt matter if its on long or short trips, i love it. it is noisier than my Shoei street full face helmet but not to bad. as far as weather goes, ive been in rain snow, sleet and sun with my mx helmet and goggles with no problems. only thing i would suggest for cold weather riding is a pair of ski goggles, they dont fog up and it save you from having to fog proof yours but the choice is yours. good luck, scott
