conspicuity light questions

1. On the web I saw these LEDs, less than an inch in diameter, $30 a pair, red or white, that stick on (I'm a little skeptical about that part). There's an optional box that makes them shimmer. Saw them on some website, can't find them now. Anybody know what the hell I'm talking about? 2. Would aftermarket LED turn signals work as running lights? These are two-wire, surface mount (as opposed to stalks or flush mount), just need a round hole to mount, come in various shapes and sizes. Why wouldn't they work as always-on conspicuity lights, albeit with a shorter bulb life than if used as turn signals? Anybody's interest piqued? Are we allowed to use French in this group? -JWF

Red would probably be illegal for forward-facing lights. Mike Martin, Louisville, KY [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

To avoid this issue, say "peeked". At least it's not French, and some listers may not notice that it's wrong.

"Motorcycle consumer news" (mag) did an artical on some led lights about the size of your pinky. they said the research on THEM came out good for being noticed more. People eyes catch the flash, but have learned to ignore the thousands of solid lights on. I have wondered about the $30. ones that you find in most auto stores, (auto zone, walmart, etc.) do they strobe at all times. and how long do they last?

Mr. Martin, I adapted my stock KLR turn signals into "running lights / turn signals". The inner single bulb needs to be removed and replaced with a dual filament bulb and dual contact electrics. I used a dremel tool with tiny grinder to accept a 2 filament bulb (stock # 1157). The main issues are 1) getting the stock metal housing to accept the new offset bolts for the 2 filament bulbs and 2) wiring the running lights to the propper running wiring. You can find dual filament contact innerds at any auto parts store. Then use the dremel to grind the metal housing to accept the new bulbs. Wire. Done. Only replace the electrical single contact electrical back of the housing with a 2 contact back. Do not replace the housing. Keep the housing and grind it to receive the new 2 filament bulb. You will note that the new bulb contacts are not aligned vs. the aligned contacts in the single filament bulb. KLR Bugeater John M. Sadowski KLRBugeater@... Sherrills Ford, NC

Here is a kit that turns your rear turn signals into running/brake lights using a red ring of LED's installed into your OEM turn signal housings. The turn signals remain amber and the running/brake lights are red. Link: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4626/238/ YouTube video of the lights operation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP5VED2WhwM&feature=player_embedded In my opinion this is where you would want the turn signals as running lights, a headlight modulator is best for daylight visibility from the front. The above kit also increases your brake lights, which is the most important time to attract attention (when braking).

For a brake light, you can't get easier than this: http://www.bikebandit.com/emgo-led-taillight-bulbs?WT.mc_id=1484958&CAWELAID=846616307 It kind of "rotates" when brakes are not on. Very annoying. When brakes are applied, if flashes like crazy. Guaranteed to irritate cagers every time. REALLY gets their attention. Robert Wichert P.Eng. I've also heard good things about these "LED wow" tail lights: http://www.happy-trail.com/KLR650/LED-Tail-Light-Kit-WOW/KLR650.aspx%c2%a0 It can be set to flash for the first few seconds the brakes are used. ________________________________ From: RobertWichert To: "david.r.nichols@..." I opened the drain.. and only a bowl full came out... So I started the bike up to run some gas through the bowl.. I then noticed that the problem went away... Rev with choke on..OK, rev with choke off.. OK.. So I closed the drain and removed the vent tube... Ran great... The original tube is gone, and this one runs up to the space under the seat... so its blocked somewhere.. or really need to have the section going down..
