what kind of plastic?

Does anybody know what type of plastic KLR ('09) fairings/fenders are made from? I would assume some sort of polyethylene, but I can't find this in my manuals or anything other than ranting on the internet. On one site somebody claimed to have asked Kawa and they said ABS - but this seems unlikely to me.
Has anybody successfully painted over these panels? How?
Thanks.

The fenders and hand guards are made from polypropylene
The fairings are ABS

...To elaborate a little more:
The fenders (front and rear), side panels and handguards are polypropylene and are VERY flexible on purpose. I suppose you could paint them but you would need a paint with a LOT of flex additive and you would end up with a more dull cast. It definitely would not shine.
I sand them with 220 grit and use DupliColor spray-on bedliner. It sticks well and is very flexible.
The Cowl and radiator covers (fairings) are ABS, they're less flexible and you could put a finer finish on them. Bedliner works well on them too.

My brother bought a totaled '09 and we patched it back together. On the panels we could save, we filled the deep scratches with bondo then bedliner'd the whole thing. It stuck well and looked pretty good, that is until he totaled it again.
The bike was a trooper though, even after being totaled a second time, we stood it up and it started on the first try.

Is the black in the fairing (that holds the windscreen), also ABS. I broke it on the right side just below the first screw that holds the windscreen.
I was thinking of buying some Lord fusion to repair it or just purchase the black center piece. Lord Fusion $70, Center piece $105.
Answer to the question: ( What happen)
After assuming that my bike would stay up right on a slight incline, bike fell on right side with the hand guard hitting a brick and pushing the broken hand guard into Kawi tall windscreen.
Rest of the bike protected by Happy trails engine guard and Panniers.

Does this mean you simply melted the top layer of the plastic?
BTW, you guys are doing a GREAT job on the Predators, Gnats, etc. Thank God you're doing it.

OD? Do you have one of the USMC diesels? If so, where did you pick it up?

I have painted my plastic with spray can black bedliner paint bought at O'Reilly Auto parts or Walmart. Duplicor is the brand name. I also used Bulldog plastic prep. Occasionally I touch up scratches on it but that is the beauty of using bedliner paint. My tank I painted with red, yellow and black auto paint. I just hate green (except my candy green Versy). The teal green on my '99 didn't do much for me.

They make an epoxy used to repair plastic bumpers that is sandable. I repaired my hard bag on my Concours using this stuff after a kid ran into me and cracked it up. I found it at an auto paint store that sells to paint and body people. it works very well and lasts.

Do you think this would also be good to repair a fairing on a 1980 Honda Gold Wing?

I never let it get to me. I simply wave with a two-fingered salute, and if there is no response, I drop one of the fingers, leaving a simply one-fingered goodbye.
