The KLR is my first dual sport although I did have XR200 years ago.
After my BMW K100 (that a nice lady ran over), the KLR kickstand
seems worthless. With the kickstand down, it just takes a little
pressure from the left to compress the suspension enough for the bike
to tip. My answer was to buy a centerstand which I was use to with
the BMW. With a cover on the KLR, a light wind could blow it over.
I did increase the preload to help. Is this normal or is there
something wrong with my bike? I already found a few things the thugs
at the dealer did wrong when assembling the bike.

I'm not sure I can understand which way it is tipping
over... tipping toward the the kickstand or away from
it?
Would lowering links with a standard kickstand cause a
bike to tip to the right (away from the kickstand)?
If the suspension being compressed causes it to tip
over that would make me think it is tipping to the
right.

I think that this is a first for the list. If it is a stock bike
without lowering links then I am surprised that the stand is not
working right. Maybe it got bent during transport?

Check the fork tubes to see if there is any tube sticking out of the
top tripple clamp. If the dealer forgot to lower the forks, the bike
would sit too low, and make it sit too straight when on the kickstand.

I've got a green one in perfect shape with lots of goodies, and no room to keep it. Anybody in the New York/Long Island area interested?
