i know that the new tanks are 6.2 gallons, but I can't seem to remember ever putting more than 4.5 into mine (1994) and I've ridden it well into reserve on many occassions. was the tank size increased after 1994?

Since were on the Gas tank thing. I have filled up four times since owning my bike (3 weeks). What distance does everyone get before it dies and you go to reserve. I seem to get around two hundred miles then it dies. When I go to the gas station it takes about 3.8 gallons to fill it back up. Does reserve hold that much gas (2 gallons). So what does everyone else get out of a tank full ,mileage, before hitting reserve.

Mine was doing this with a paper element in-line fuel filter. Does your bike have an extra fuel filter spliced into the fuel line? Dave, I consistently hit reserve at about 250 - 265 miles. That leaves about 1.5 gals in reserve. Vernon -----Original Message----- From: david.smith@... In theory, in the cold and cruel real world you have about 1 gal left. Of that 1/2 is hidden in the right side of the tank; usable only if you tip the bike on it's side so it flows to the petcock on the left. Bogdan

Good info to know.... Hit 230-260 miles...feel the "bog" slide the petcock into reserve...and know that you can go for another 40-50 miles. If it "bogs" before 40-50 miles...get your but off the bike and lean it way over to left, and hopefully make the rest of the way! Joe in Kansas

Just went to 255 before having to turn it to reserve; got to the gas station at 293, and it took 5.45 gallons (presumably having .65 gallons in the tank.) Normal, mixed subruban and rural riding. Jett

My latest adventure cost me a gas tank. I like the large fuel capacity of the stock tank but was looking for plastic replacement. Has anyone had to replace the tank with something other then stock? Any suggestions? Thanks Stephen
