Newbie rider, first-time poster. The aftermarket tall windshield that came
with my 2008 KLR throws a lot of wind at my helmet. I'm 6' tall (34" inseam)
and the windshield comes up to between my chin and mouth when I'm in the
saddle; I don't know the make/model.
Any suggestions for windshields that won't rip my head off and leave my ears
ringing? Any tall riders have luck with the 'add-on' deflectors?
I use the bike 80% for commuting. Appreciate any advice.

Scott:
A buddy of mine has the adjustable one and likes it after he got it "just right".

Clearview is working on coming out with a new wind deflector for your bike. I will have some of the first of these as soon as they are made. You will have three options for height. You can see photos of these shields at: http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=303

Scott-- Have you tired removing the clear windshield? The immediate cure (and acceptable for me on the Gen I bikes) was to remove the windshield which lowers the buffet to mid chest. That buffet was approx. what you would have with a 'normal-naked' bike. I bought two different KLR's both equipped with taller windshields, different heights, and now both removed; both INCREASED wind noise significantly (for me). I have less than 1 hour on a Gen II KLR with OEM windshield and was surprised how much quieter it was compared to the Tupperware bike with the std. windscreen. Not that that helps you tall leaf-eater types that ride bikes....However, I have not seen anyone post they removed the OEM windscreen to reduce noise; could be worth a try. Sound Attenuation: First of all, you can help the ringing in the ears by wearing ear plugs. I would say most riders at this site do this, sooner or later. Sounds like you are ready for ear plugs! I have a custom molded set for shooting, and they were inadequate for the MC--others here they work 4.0. shrug. There are several different foam shapes, and not all work equally well for all people. I tried several sets of foam before I found some that I really liked; NOTE: they must be installed deeply in the ear canal if they are to work properly. Sometimes it takes two tries to get them installed correctly. Another thing that helps is a balaclava that helps diffuse the wind that gets to your ears. I have found most of the wind enters under the helmet, migrating upward as the primary wind-noise-source--the balaclava helps diffuse that upward rising air. The one I like the best is sold by HD (spendy) but is the thinest, best fitting I have found. The helmet also make a difference. Many have had really good results with sound attenuation with ARIA helmets ~$500 range. revmaaatin.> > Any suggestions for windshields that won't rip my head off and leave my ears > ringing? avon gripsters for sale. unused front, 200 mi. back for $165 total
(San Francisco area)
I bought a set of Avon Gripster AM24 tires last year for their longevity. I'm finding myself riding more dirt than expected, though, and chose instead to put more knobby-ish tires on my bike (TKC-80's).
So I'm selling the Gripsters. I bought them together, new, about 18 months ago.
New description: http://motorcycle.motorcycle-superstore.com/search#w=avon+am24
Front: unused. Still has the Parts Unlimited wrapper and that new tire smell.
Back: maybe 200 miles on it. Still has the nipply bits on the sides.
Photos of my tires at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59249397@N04/sets/72157625999629792/
Selling both together for $165.
I'd prefer to sell them in person but will send to any legit person on this list if you pick up the shipping fee. I'm in the Inner Sunset area of San Francisco.
Please email me at gripsters@...
Thanks,
Daniel

Scott,
I'm 6'1" and found the Kawi+4" and Laminar Lip combination to be the answer
for me. But with over 18k miles with it, it has not let me down. I've ridden
up to 80mph and do not have any buffeting wind in my face or at my head. I
can ride with (full face helmet) the shield up (especially in the summer for
fresh air) using sunglasses of course. Very quiet not a lot of noise and
easy to talk on my Scala Team rider Bluetooth headset. I did not purchase
the Laminar Lip that is now designed for the +4 screen I purchased the
original for the shorter screen and it works fine and it is not too
expensive even if you combine the two prices. It pushes the air up and over
the helmet. Works excellent for me. If not I would have switched to another
option.

Ride safe!
