no starting juice after mods -- wtf?

Apparently I've done something silly (or stupid).
Can't start my '09 KLR650 after I installed the mods listed below. The bike was starting OK when I rode it into my garage several weeks ago to begin this long list of mods.
Now the starter will not kick over when the start button is pushed (kill switch is on). Literally nothing happens when I press the start button. Ignition turned on, lights on, choke on, etc., but nothing happens. Currently the bike is raised very slightly (tires barely touching the garage floor) on my motorcycle lift. Could that cause these symptoms?
I DO have headlights (brights and dims; brights very bright so battery should be charged OK), horn, turn signals, and all the fuses I can find (under seat and inside kickstand switch cover) are OK.
Here are the mods I installed:
Ricor IAS shock
Ricor Vibranators
Happy-Trail PD Nerf Engine Protectors
Happy-Trail SU Side Carrier Racks
McDonalds Heavy Duty Shifter
Moose Onyx SS 1/2" backset foot pegs
Happy-Trail rear master cylinder protector
Happy-Trail skid plate
Dual-Star Subframe Upgrade
Zeta Armor Handguards
(Intiminators and Sonic fork springs next, after I get this electrical issue ironed out)
(Yes, I had a very good Christmas, thank you!)
My guess is that I've done something to the starter circuit, but darned if I can tell what I did. Suggestions?
Thanks much.

Did the tank come off? As other than that don't see anything that within the upgrades that caused this. The kickstand safety switch
messed up? Someone else will chrip in so you can get it going again. I hate when I work on something, spend hours, get it all
back together (I think correctly) and it does not work!

Dave,
Any chance the newer models have a clutch switch that's affecting the
starter operation? On the earlier models I'm pretty sure the stock
configuration requires the transmission to be in neutral or the clutch
pulled in for the starter button to operate. Since you messed with
installing handguards maybe the clutch switch if your model has one got
knocked out of whack. Same for the shifter... could it not be in
neutral???

Eureka!
Occam's Razor & Sherlock Holmes at their best: when all the
"impossible" has been eliminated, that which remains, no matter how
improbable, must be the answer--AND it was probably the simplest thing
to begin with.
Yes, the transmission was knocked into first gear, which I should have
noticed by the absence of the green "neutral" light. Put 'er in
neutral and she started right up. I figured I was doing something
sillly!
Thanks, Jeff, for your eye-opener. Whew!
Dave
ps
Now to get the Intiminators and Sonic springs installed before I run
out of steam tonight!

Yes, Dynojet uses a different jet numbering system than anyone else.

In installing the Dynojet kit, the instructions call for using the 136 main jet. This seems awfully small, as the stock is 148. Is there a difference in the numbering system? While that doesn't make sense, nothing surprises me any more
