What is the wear limit on the front brake pads? What are some good aftermarket choices that will give me some more stopping power over the stock pad. I'm more concerned with performance than overall life (within reason). Are Galfer a good choice? Thanks Bryan K A14

1 mm thickness is the wear limit on front and back. I have a set of Dunlopads waiting to be installed but the OEM's are still going stong at 10,000 miles. I'm thinking I should get 13,000 miles out of them. Brad

After changing tires, I found the front pads at less than 1mm, and the rear at about 1mm. 13k miles on a '99. Ordered the Galfer pads and front brake line from Fred for about $120 w/o shipping. Gettin' here Friday so I can put 'em in during xmas vacation... GT A13

I thought it was "when rider sees sparks fly." Now I know why I'm not a moto mechanic... RM

It is when the sparks are flying... If your intention is to replace the rotor and perhaps the caliper at the same time that is... ;-) Nuk Nuk Nuk Duden A15 Pilot

If bike brakes ever get ceramic parts then fireworks may become a fact of life. Mister_T

It removed the Galfer green pads from the front after they wore out after 5000kms. After putting the stock pads back on (the old ones had some life left) I quickly realized how much better the Galfer pads are. I don't mean a little better, I mean a whole lot better. It seems at least half the brakes are gone. The bike immeadiately was less fun to ride, bordering on scary in the braking department. My question is what other brand of pads can give me simular performance maybe with a better life. I have a hard time getting Galfer parts in Canada. We can get SBS, EBC, Vesra and MBS. And speaking of brake pads, got a set of front Galfer black pads bought for an A16 with less than 500 miles on them, part number # 1052 GF, free to a good home to anyone on the list who has more pressing things to do with their money right now. Email me off list an address and I'll ship em out. Dan, Sacramento [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
