I have had a brake calipher leak after replacing pads until... I took some advice and cleaned the piston protruding before shoving it back into the housing.. that dirt/grime buildup screws up the o ring seal on the piston and that was where it would leak on me. I just take a small wire brush to it before pushing it in. Dan of Graham> pieces.

This is kind of like oil and a couple other things, but here's the deal as I see it. I also added the Russell brake lines, and wanted good replacement pads. I asked Fred, (you DO know Uncle Fred Hink, right? http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/index.html), what he thought would be good for pads, and he suggested the Galfer green pads in front, and the Galfer black pads in the rear. I'm not going to say how much money I've spent with him on aftermarket parts in case my wife ever reads this, (Grinning), but it's been a lot - (check out the 3350 mile maintenance at: http://klr6500.tripod.com/mymaintrec.html) 99.9% of that stuff came from Fred) - and he has never steered me wrong. I often don't even know what exactly I should get, as with the brake pads, so I just ask Fred to send me the best thing for the job. You don't get THAT kind of service or support many places! I've only been able to put on a couple hundred miles over the past few months in here Massachusetts - we just had another major snowstorm - but those pads clearly showed their stuff for the riding I did do... I finally pulled off my EBC 'R'-suffix pads after 3,000,000,000 miles (that's how long it seemed) and installed the Galfer Greens on the front. They bedded-in very rapidly and they seem to provide slightly better than stock performance (as opposed to the EBC's which were identical to stock). If they provide decent service life, I'll keep using them. If they die as fast as the Galfer Blacks on the rear did, I'll try something else. Galfer should put their HH-rated 1396 stoppie pucks into production in our size.
