klr650 tire choices

I know this subject is beat on a lot, but I'm ready to replace my worn out Dunlop K750 rear with either a Bridgestone TW18 or TW42. I don't intend to do a lot of trail riding, but also don't want to be totally miserable if/when I do. I can get it bought/mounted for around $100 in the San Jose area. I enjoy reading the opinions from this group. Anyway, does anyone know of a good reason not to go for one of these choices? I've read a lot of reviews and haven't read much bad on these. Did I just miss it? Allen

What will make you miserable is the hoots of derision as people realize you are riding on "Death Wings". They come as original equipment on DR650's. People usually change them at their first opportunity. Other than that, I don't know that there is anything particularly wrong with them.

klr650 tire choices

There are lots of good cheap to mid priced tires on the market any more.  I am sure the Bridgestone tires will have to be at least as good as the OEM tires. crash bars on the klr

I was glad I had the PD (Paris Dakar) Nerf Bars and highway pegs on my A19 when I had my rear tire blow out from a 4 inch nail on 23 May, 2009. Going around 40 miles an hour, a very slight left bend in the road, up a bit of a hill. The bike and I had all the damage to the left sides. I also had a larger luggage rack on the back that helped prevent damage. In the back the left turn signal lens had a crack, rear over sized luggage rack had to be replaced. Up front the handle bars were slightly bent. The foot peg on the Nerf Bars had to be replaced, mirror, clutch handle, air deflector in front of the grip, fairing and fairing mount, bulb in the headlight, left grip and I had a small leak at the bottom right of the radiator but you could not see any damage there. Since I do not remember anything about the wreck when it happened I did get to talk to the lady who helped me a few weeks after. She told me I was standing in the middle of the road trying to get my helmet off without taking the strap loose. She also said I (not the bike kept rolling and I hit the guard rail. I guess my body must have damaged the fairing when I kept going. I had on blue jeans, Wellington boots, leather gloves, t shirt with a Icon orange riding vest. I did not have anything wrong with my legs so those crash bars must have helped. Road rash was on my arms and rear of the left shoulder. I had a full face helmet on but I managed to bit my tounge and my sunglasses had the frame broke on the left side. When I finally came to my senses I was laying in a ambulance and saw a helicopter landing and a Pennsylvania State Police officer standing about five feet away. I was laying on my back and I felt something in the small of my back. It was my 38 special snub nose revolver that I had in the Icon back pouch. It is a wonder that it stayed in there with me rolling around. I called the trooper over and let him know about the firearm and he took it to my house. There were not marks on the gas tank.
