Needed to get the knobbies off the bike since I will be commuting on it more. The knobbies make the bike vibrate too much to be comfortable for a 13 mile commute. So I put the bike on the shop stand and pulled both tires last week. Dropped them off at the shop with the new tires Saturday and picked them up yesterday just as the shop was closing. Last night I had the back wheel almost in place when the shop stand decided to stop being strong enough. Over the bike went. Conveniently I had thought ahead and positioned myself between the bike and the floor as to break its fall. Crap, more Ibuprophene moments in my future! That seems to be happening a lot these days. After extricating myself from between the two I stood there scratching my head for a while. Then I decided it hurt and went to get a beer. After standing there scratching my head for a while more I decided that since the bike was conveniently laying on its side on the Aluminum panniers and crash bar that I should just finish putting the back wheel on and thus did so. I always used the side stand and a stick under the swing arm in the woods but this way seems pretty easy. Now the bike is standing on the new back tire and the fork lowers. My car jack, when applied to the crash bar, will not raise the front of the bike enough to get the shop stand under the bash plate. Thus lifting the 400 pound beast to put the front tire back on now seems complicated. After work I plan to go stare at it while scratching my head some more. It may come to jack, blocks, jack on blocks then shop stand but I am hoping a simpler solution will present it self. I may just lay it over again and put the front tire on. For now I am the new king of what not to do, and I did not get to ride to work on the first nice day of Spring. Grrrrr.

Or find a local store that stocks beer in tall glass bottles. Buy a crate with 12 in , then use the empty crate as a lightweight support. In the UK we use Newcastle Brown Ale crates for KLR servicing supports :D Scouse

Good Luck with that.. I tried a Plastic Crate once with lumber over the top and the crate started to crush.. Metal crate was fine. Then I just rolled out the Larin MC/ATV Lift and did it right. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Doh this last one went direct to Dooden. Anyhoo to recap, for those folks in the land of "lite" beers, look for an importer of a real heavyweight amongst beers Newcastle Brown Ale. The Bottles usually get shipped all over teh world to service the needs of squaddies, so they are strong bottles containing one imperial pint. Tough crates that can take the weight of a BMW R1100GS without a quiver. As do the Wychwood Brewery crates when you gcan get them. So if you want to use a plastic crate make sure it is British for the far superior level of over engineering :D Generations of home mechanics have used them to support their steeds! Scouse
