Is democracy and majority rule oppression? It could be perceived as so by the minority that lost on some particular issue. So I take it you are against democracy and the greater good for all concept of America? You know a few dickheads riding around with straight pipes and ruining the freedom of the thousands of people they drive by a day, you know, the majority of the populace to have a nice day, in our society it's majority rules. There are laws against straight pipes in every state, loud pipes are not a guaranteed freedom or right, they are against the law. So basically you are breaking the law as set forth by the majority, violating the laws and freedom of the majority of your state and country. If you look at this particular subject, some of you fellas are actually anti-American and against your fellow countrymen. Traitors on a certain level, right in there with the terrorists and other anti-American scumbags. Using your twisted logic, you don't come out looking to good, America, love it or leave it, g

Keep in mind that someone feeling oppressed by traffic laws is free to ride/drive in the oncoming lane, run red lights and travel at any speed desired. I only ask that you not do it in my vicinity, or warn me so I can choose to stay the hell off the road for those few minutes. Stephen

IRT to hearing your engine-- Right after you install your alumimum bash plate, you will also get an 'ear-full' of reflected engine noise that does not occur with a plastic engine guard. You will swear that the engine is coming apart. It is not anything like loud pipes, but if you are not expecting it--it will be a little disconcerting. And now a short KLR story. cough. IRT to hearing things-- summer of 08, my riding partner and I were stranded in the Great Basin of Wyoming at dusk with a blown clutch in a muddy quagmire. We pitched one tent in the dark and made the best of it. Some time during the night, we were awakened by the scratching sound of an unknown 'creature' clawing the tent side wall. "MAAATIN----WHAT IS THAT" I was asked. Don't know. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Putting in my earplugs. "WHY? SO YOU CAN'T HEAR THE SCRATCHING" No, so I can't hear you scream when 'it' gets through the tent-wall. I for one slept just fine. My friend, well, not so fine. revmaaatin.

For the metal skid plate noise, cut the top off a large tube of black rtv silicone, squeeze it out and spread it with a flat scraper to about 1/4 inch thick on the cleaned inside of the skid plate. Let it dry overnight and reinstall. You should notice about an 80% decrease in the bell effect of the plate. The silicone helps stop/absorb the harmonics of the plate. This is a proven method, albeit on DL1000s. If it can quiet down the noise on those, it should also be effective on a KLR. (or not) btw, good camping story..

Being 100% deaf in one ear actually has some advantages. - Only one ear plug needed to drown out camp mate's screams - Only one ear plug needed to drown out wife's snoring. Can't tell which direction loud pipe bike is coming from, no advantage to either them or me. "Good eyes save lives"
