All the safety switch(es) have been disabled. Cycled the switches, opened the fuel cap, pulled the fuel line from the petcock and cranked over, have fuel flow, drained the carb bowl several times, beat on the carb bowl, installed different coil, plug and plug wire, checked all the fuses and connections, all while sitting on the side of the road...called friend to come pick me up. Got it started twice after sitting a while...it ran for about 20 secs and died and wouldn't start again for another hour or so. Before I spend time trouble shooting this thing further, what does this sound like to you experts? Oh yeh the reserve quit feeding a few weeks ago...a clue? the petcock maybe? It's never been into... > thx a bunch Well I finally have gotten into Jackass' problems. I have gone thru the electrical system per Cylmer's and all the components checked ok. I found a wire shorted to the frame tho and am hoping it's the problem. The wire is one of the red ones running into the diode box between the cdi and the frame. It had just barely rubbed thru the insulation which maybe explained the intermittent business...I have been told that indeed a shorted diode will kill the bike...i'm looking for confirmation on that here please. On my bike it's tight in that area of the cdi and there was a lot of strain on some of the harness there. One of the problems was the retarded way they ran the radiator overflow vent hose thru there and out the rear fender. Guess they thought we didnt want any radiator fluid on us. They don't know KLR riders very well. Well, anyway I got that thing out of there and ran it down the front and out of the way and that relieved a lot of the congestion in there and the wire strain, along with a little rerouting. You might want to take a look in there and see if yours was screwed up like mine and fix things up so you won't get stranded from a rubbed wire.
