I haven't looked real close at my KLR (just purchased last week) but isn't there a connecting tube under the tank that allows access to the other side of the "reserve" bottom half? No connecting tube on the KLRs. =( Stop by a sporting goods store and get a couple of 1 litre MSR aluminum fuel bottles if venturing more than 300 miles from a fuel source. =) eddie

You don't really expect Kawasaki to admit you can't access the full 6.1 gallons do you ? It is a fact that I learned from this very group. As for the cross over tube, there is not one on the KLR. Rick A17

Yeah, Funny thing about the book, legends, myths etc. You won't know if the tip-over works until your bike is overloaded, out of fuel, and it is still 10 miles from a fueling point. Did I mention it will be colse to 100F as well.... revmaaatin. ps. if you are using a fuel filter, you will find this out sooner than later. ie. hit reserve because you need head pressure for fuel to flow through the filter, resulting in 'more' trapped gas than just .3 gallons.

I can testify that the tip-over method works, so i call it my idiot reserve. When I switch to reserve & forget to fill up and reach down to switch to reserve when it starts to sputter (again). Has happened twice and works every time. albatross who has forgotten if he is old or just forgetful?
