Hello,
My trusty 2001 KLR 650, vin#JKAKLEA181A070596, has apparently fallen into nefarious hands and I've had to report it stolen in Brooklyn, NY. The abduction occurred some time between Thursday, June 4, 2PM and Monday June 8, 4:30PM.
I will miss that ride. We went many places together and even on a weekday commute she provided joy, trust, confidence & growth. I had spent much time making us a good fit so we could work together as well as we did. She felt much like a favorite pair of hiking boots and together we were ready to take on what came, mostly city streets & asphalt/pot holes/metal plates/aggressive 4 wheel devices/etc...but also dirt, gravel & single lane roads. We've weathered heavy rains, winds, bitter cold, high heat, strong winds and beautiful days.
From the dirt roads and trails to 6 lane interstate, solo or 2 up, she helped me be a better & safer rider, (altho' I still would have liked to overcome that helmet noise & wind buffeting at higher speeds).
I pray KLR that whatever your path becomes, that some of your strength & beauty will come through. Also that somehow that all of those that were involved in this theft will have an awakening, realize that these actions & stealing are wrong and change their ways.
Blessings,
Carl Picco

I feel sorry for your loss and admire your Christian charity, but
have you thought of getting a hunting license?

~~~My 2 cents on oil consumption. My 08' doesn't use oil around town but get it out on the interstate...it took 800 miles of riding in less than 2 days but she need about a pint or so to bring her back up. this was last year with about 3 or 4 K miles on the motor
I remember when I bought my ST 1100 third nhand, 20 K miles or so and it never used oil, until I rode it out to WY 3 days later, then had to add a pint of oil or so
I'm not saying all bike motors are like this but often times you wont see a motor use oil when the amount of time it's ridden is restricted to under a 100 miles a day, but ride that same bike 500 miles a day back to back days...you better take a look at your oil level=:-)
