So what are the options for shortening or making adjustable side stands?
Links to photos and descriptions of how each method worked would be the
best replies to this. I had planned to chop off an inch then make a 1
inch block that could be attached and removed. When the panniers are
full and both dry bags are on board it stands up way to straight for my
comfort.
I have a bar with a c shaped end that fits against the frame then I
wedge the other end against the ground to keep it from tipping over.
With this very upright position the pannier tops make a good table top
for cooking or what ever. Still some versatility in the kick stand
height would be handy. I will compile reported methods into one document
and upload it to the files section

My suspension height changes a lot (with / without camping gear) and the
OEM sidestand was just a bit too tall. The bike tended to be too
vertical and easily tipped over on the right side. A lowered sidestand
was too short so I modified it, as others have done before, so it could
be adjusted (see photo section 'Adjustable Sidestand_2').
I still need to cut off the extra threaded rod but I'm sure that after I
get the length dialed in, I won't change it much after that.
