...looks very similar to the Kenda K270. More knobby than Gripster/OEM, less knobby than MT21/D606. Any experience with them? RM

Up close, the tread is very different from the K270. I usually use the K270, but my A3 came with a new C858 on the rear. It's a comparable tire, but the C858 corners better on dry pavement. I can really lean the bike on it; the side knobs seem stiffer. No more or less scary than the K270 on wet pavement, and they're about equal off-road. The C858 may clear mud better, but I haven't had the chance to slime it up. After I see how the tire wears, I may to switch to a set of C858's for my Tengai for a try, but continue with the K270 on the others. The K270 is still the value leader in my opinion. Mark B2 A2 A3

Tonight was my first wet-ride on the K270's (yes, I rode the bike to work in the midst of a tropical storm 2mph under hurrican level.. don't ask) and frankly they seemed to suck on the wet roads. I'm not sure how much of this is because they are brand new (pips still on most of the off-center nobs, etc.) but if they are not going to get any better I'll use the CBR or the Miata for wet-weather duty..

G'day All, I considering the Chen Shin C858 for a front tyre. The local distributor lists 80/100 - 21 and 2.75 x 21. Are either of them the equivalent of the 90/90 - 21 specified in the manual? Thanks Nige

The formula for tire measurement is a follows (I think) : 80 is the width of the tire in mm. 100 is the percentage of the width that would be equal to the profile. Therefore, if I have this right, the tire is 80 mm wide and the prfile is also 80 mm. The math for the other size 90/90 gives you a tire that is 90 mm wide and 80 mm in profile. I hope it helps. The KL600-A1 specified 3.00S21 4PR and 5.10S17 4PR tires on 1.60X21 and 2.50X17 rims(same rim widths as KLR650). I think some have mentioned using the 2.75X21 front tire. Fred

i had the same problem with my bike with low mileage. i found that oil weights and cleanliness makes a huge difference in the way it shifts. i also replaced my stock shifter with the ims shifter. by far the best thing i've done to my bike. it's longer so less effort, it shifts crisply no slop. i'm guessing my stock shifter was just sloppy because i have no problems finding neutral now. klrdar
