headlight on when starting

List members: Since buying my 2007 KLR, the headlight always comes on as soon as I turn on the key ignition. All of my other motorcycles, the headlight stays OFF until the engine is running. Couple of times the bike was hard to start and I ran the battery down in no time. Did the dealer screw up when they prepped the bike or is the headlight suppose to come on with the key ignition? Thanks

That's the way KLRs work. My DR-Z is the same way, so was my VFR. __Arden

My headlight comes on with the key, but then goes out when the starter is running. My 1991 KLR has a bar switch that turns the headlight low/high/off. This is a handy thing for when you're trying to push start the beast without lighting the way. Would this switch be aftermarket? Top posted cause I can... As for the Milky oil spot.... ride the bike it will go away. If the seal was in good shape and fairly fresh it should be fine. If it was notin good shape you will find out after doing the first step which is ride the bike to get ride of the condensation. Sitting on some Suzuki 1300 cc G something, fired it up and woooooo wished I had that motor on the ole KLR talk about lighting up the rear tire... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... Good thing about working in te repo world get to see lots of different makes and models of everything... Like that 700 Rapter I was out pulling wheelies with... Gotta git me one of them... Anyway.. ride the bike and do not take all the hubba bubba too serious what is talked about in the group.. remember with this many folks... every and I mean EVERY weak spot is beat to death... One of the guys on the kl650.net forums posted a headlight cutoff mod that looked pretty nice. I have it bookmarked as something to do on a rainy day. http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=38841 ---- Nathan
