I'm looking to replace my gripsters with the K270's, what size do I need in inches. 90/90-21= 130/80-17= Thanks Otto

90/90/21 = 3.10x21 or 3.25x21 130/80/17 = 5.10x17 Ryan Phoenix

i just put on a kenda 270 rear and a tkc 80 front (about 700 miles ago). the 270 bites well and the tkc hooks up well off road, and i'm learning to have some confidence on the pavement. here's the deal though. seems like the 270 is wearing kind of fast. (I run about 32psi on and 21 off) my question... has anyone worn out a MEFO yet? what kind of mileage? i would like to believe that i need a more offroad tire but reality is i commute more than i ride in the woods. any opinions?

Cheap tires will do that. I didn't get very good wear out of my Kenda 270 either. It grips well enough, but has no "life".

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Chris, I'm running 32 front and 36 rear on pavement with K270s. I get over 6,000 smiles from a rear and about 11,000 from a front. Off road up here I may let pressures down to 22 front and 28 rear. Just did about 235 miles or so with RevMartin. Probably 40% of that was off pavement. He's getting about the same wear out of his K270s. If you get a chance to ride the Piedmont fire trail (144) take it toward Piedmont. It washed out last Friday in the storm and was kind of like riding down a stair case for 2 1/2 -3 miles. Chris, I just put a set of MEFO's on less than 100 miles ago. I'm planning a trip up the Great Divide in September. I'll send a post as to how they work out. I also switched from a 21" to 19" front wheel. I haven't pushed it much with the new tires, but handling is noticeably improved. The best analogy is like switching from an old composition O'Brien water ski to a Jobe competition ski. Takes a bit to get used to it, but cornering is sweet! The big gain I'm hoping for is in sand. I have run three of them on my KLR, and averaged 9500 miles. For my money, it's the longest-lasting offroad-capable tire you can buy. I have yet to try the mefo. If I can ever find one for 35 bucks, I'll jump on it. If somebody gets 25000 miles out of one, maybe I would pay full price to try one.

I have about 5k on my Mefo's. Probably about 80% street. I've been VERY hard on them when I get off the pavement and it shows. Lotsa (that's Italian for many) rocky trails and being heavy handed on the Forest Service roads. I took some serious chunks out of them riding up to Blue Lake (black diamond motocross trail). They have about 1 to 2k left. Well, the rear anyway. I'm sure you could get quite a bit more under more normal conditions. I don't own a pure dirt bike, so my KLR really does it all. They've been a good all around tire. Better off road than the stock Dunlops and nearly as good on the highway. I plan to try the TKCs next, but the Mefo's have held up admirably. A bicycle shop usually has access (online or in-house) to a spoke length calculator for use in building wheels. Older versions were limited to known brands of hub/rim and so might not have worked, but I believe the new ones may strictly use measurements and so would work for motorcycle applications.
