I'm not really sure what you would use any solvent for during a leak down test, as far as engine conditions go to perform one you simply want to have the motor as close to operating temperature as possible so you have the best possible oil seal at the rings and to duplicate as near as possible to true running conditions and to have the motor at top dead centre on it's compression stroke. I have HAD IT with my 2005 Piaggio BV 500 touring scooter. Great bike (took it from San Francisco to Death Valley & back with no problems) but that thing was so stupidly designed from a service standpoint, the bodywork designer should have his fingers super glued to a bee hive for life! So now I am looking for a do it all, reliable mid size motorcycle to park in my garage next to my pristine and simple to service 1981 Yamaha Virago 750. I really like the redesigned KLR 650, but have the following questions: How easy is it to: Change the spark plug change the oil check the valves (I know, shims are more work then lock nut adjusters) remove & replace chain & sprocket remove front & rear wheels for new tires. Basically is there any routinely needed service that is a bitch to do on this bike? Because after owning the BV 500, I'm all about not having another stupid bike in my garage. Thank you!
