None. I'm 5'8" with a 31" inseam and weigh 145. No problems with the KLR. My DR-Z 400 is taller and I'm still fine on it with boots. Lowering will increase the leverage on the spring, so you'll need a stronger one to keep from bottoming. Tain't worth it, IMHO. Try lowering the rear spring preload and riding it a bunch before you mess with lowering it, especially if you want to go off the pavement. My memory of the '08 is that it didn't sit quite as high as the earlier models. __Arden

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Digger, I'm with Arden that none is the correct amount. I'm 5' 9" and about 165 pounds. My 03' works great for me with the stock height. I was fine with stock height, till I got aggressive offroad, but what I did was was lower the front end (slide forks up in the triple) about 3/4"~1" and have found no handling issues. Did it with fresh Kenda 270's wore them out and mounted a D606 on the front and still have no issues. I found that little bit is all I needed to have better footing in the woods. Dooden A15 Green Ape

I'm about the same height and inseam as you. I lowered my 06 2 inches and I'm very happy with it. I also lowered the wife's. We don't do gnarly offroad but we do ride offroad. But in the last year and a half, we've been to Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize (about 14,000 miles)and our bikes were just fine. There is a certain pleasure in being able to flat foot a moto. Yes, there are times we scape the bottom but that's why we have skidplates. We're saving our pennies now as we plan on going for 6 months to Mexico/Central America this coming November.

1. Apply the brakes 2. As the bike comes to a halt, put a foot down. The KLR is a mono-track vehicle, only stable when it is moving. Putting a foot dow will prevent it tipping over at rest. For longer stops, use the sidestand.

For max stability, slide off the seat a bit and plant your foot. I usually just use my tip toes at a stop, often rocking between them. If it's a long light, I practice my balancing for something to do. One thing that will help short legs is boots with thick soles. I notice a big difference in ground reach between riding boots and tennies on my KLR. __Arden
