Hello Group, This past Saturday I rode a few miles down time road to the new Yamaha/Kawasaki dealership that just opened a few months ago in Wilkesboro,NC to check them out. I bought my KLR in at another dealership about 35 miles away before this dealership opened. Anyway, I've been in many shops as most of you have, so I walked around and the first thing I notice on each bike is a paper sign saying don't sit on the bikes without assistance. This kind of thing kinda turns me off but I thought well, motorcycles are expensive these days. I asked for the owner of the dealership so I could meet him but was told he rarely comes into the shop. Hmmmm. I then asked about valve adjustments / servicing questions for my KLR and was interrupted with "oh yeah sure, we can handle all that for you." That struck me odd when the dealership just picked up the Kawasaki line just weeks ago. I had also already talked to the parts man who told me that they were still waiting on Kawasaki to ship them they're first parts stock for new dealers. Said he didn't know what parts to expect from Kawasaki. Lord give me strength. The last thing was the three salesmen/ one mechanic strategy. A Kawasaki dealership three miles from the house and it looks like for now it'll be trips to the one 35 miles away. We all start somewhere so I'm pulling for the new dealership but it might be awhile before I trust them with my money. Steve nw NC A-15 DR350SE [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The dealer in San Jos told my friend from the Yamaha moto store here in Puerto Limon that they had two (2) exhaustpipe gaskets in stock, and they were willing to sell me one. Good people. When I get it next week I think my back will be good enough to crawl under the thing again. I saw a T n r parked at the store, blue, don t know which year, not brand new, can t see any exciting improvements over the KLR, just another heavy 650 dual purpose MC. The double headlights are nice. Brake calipers look a bit sturdier. Seat worse. Rear tire a bit bigger I think. I will let it pass. There is no bike in the whole wide world that I would consider perfect, will have to design and build it yourself. Question: does anyone think that the old copper gasket could have been sucked inside the valve chamber when I started the engine without the muffler pipe on it? Can t find the darn thing, do elfs and goblins really exist? If I am entitled to only one answer, plse take the first question. I met a very fat lady with hair on her chin, she said her name was Jennifer, could it be....? Regards, Jake. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! SNIP Regards, Jake. <><><><><><> <><><><><><> Jake, I doubt the gasket would get sucked into the exhaust port. That's a lot of exhaust coming out compared to going back in. I don't know if the gasket would even fit into the port. Maybe you could try to figure out the possible trajectory of the missing gasket and look about 15 feet further than you'd think it would go. I'm not messing with your second question. : ) Best, Jeff Saline ABC # 4412 South Dakota Airmarshal Airheads Beemer Club www.airheads.org The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650, 79 R100RT

Any chance that it's so crushed and blackened that you're just not seeing it? Maybe try picking around in the recess with a sharp tool and see if there's any copper in there. Less likely--is it stuck to the end of the header pipe? __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Jacobus De Bruyn wrote:

It wouldn't. I think Jake may be looking for something that looks like the shiny copper donut that went in there. IME, after a while and being properly tightened down, the gasket is black and thin, and looks like a washer bonded to the exhaust port. It may actually still be in place... I have often had to pick used gaskets out of the port with a dental pick or small screwdriver. I am going with Jacobs second guess. The wee folks and fairies have taken the gasket. I know this because I'm still looking for an off-set ratcheting screwdriver I last used on the KLR 6 months ago. There is a particular few of the little beasties which steals parts and tools used to work on KLR while your back is turned. albatross now where is that cup of coffee my wife promised --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Jacobus De Bruyn wrote:
