Ok heres my story, I own a 2007 with amost 11 thousand miles on it. About three weeks ago,I noticed the motor was starting to miss fire at cruising speed.So I decided to check things out.I also noticed more noise than normal coming from bottom end.(Just so every one knows ) Oil changes have never gone beyond a thousand miles.So while changing the oil I found an lot of metal on the magnetic oil drain,And in the oil filter.(Which I was told was normal by mechanic later in the story. and that it looked like aluminum) (Aluminum will not stick to a magnet) Adjust the balancer,drained the carb and checked for water and debri,All ok. Checked all wire connection. Put everything back together and went for a test ride. The bike still was running rough and sounding noisy. So since the bike was still under factory warranty and due for routine service,(Purchased with the dealer)I took the bike back to cycle city in newnan ga. After telling service manager what was going on he agreed with me that the motor wasn't sounding normal. He informed me that would contact kawasaki. At that point he was told that there was no known issues with this model. So they completed service ,Including adjusting exhaust valves. At this point I was called and told the bike was ready. Picked the bike up and returned home .( NO TEST RIDE AT DEALER) This is where things get ugly!!!! I saddled up and went for a ride ,At the 5 mile mark the bike shut off and would refire .( 5 MILE PUSH BACK TO THE HOUSE).Loaded the bike back up and off we went back to the shop.( LESS THAN THRILLED ).Sure enough the bike started right back up, ran about 5 minutes and shut off The next day the dealer call and said they found the problem. ( The safety switch on the clutch was shorted) ,At which point I told him I had already checked that and if were a safety switch issue the starter would not turn over.Thats when he told me the bike was running.So here I go again on the 40 mile(ONE WAY) ride back to shop in my full size pickup.Started the bike and it runs for about 5 minutes and SHUTS OFF AGAIN .Look i'm not trying to start trouble but want the bike fixed and fixed right!!!!!! This shop doen't even have a repair manual for this bike .At this point ,I wouldn't trust this bike more then a mile from my house. I Don't have the the answers to these questions.I thought maybe someone on this list could help me ( PLEASE ). Maybe copy this and send it kawasaki. (SURE DO MISS MY BIKE ) Oh!! To answer your questions Jim , Yes the dealer changed the oil, But I didn't see the filter (only a few miles on it after I change it). The engine will run about 5 minutes then just quit.If you let it cool off completely it will run fine 5 or so minutes and shut down again. No I have not installed an inline filter.If you pull tank off and remove the spark plug ,There isn't any spark when turned over and plug ground to head bolt. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? NO, I HAVE NOT DONE THE DO YET (WARRANTY ISSUES). NOW THAT IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY . I PLAN ON REPLACING IT ,( IF I EVER GET MY BIKE BACK FROM THE SHOP). I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THE DEALER. But the bike WAS under warranty when the problem started and when you notified them of the problem wasn't it? Insist that Kawasaki fix the bike even if it has to be taken to a shop where they do know what they're doing. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa Wayne Blackburn wrote:

The dealer called and they got the bike running,And the service tech was taking for a test ride. I told him that I hope he took his cell phone. Top posted.. We did not sell Kawasaki at the shop I worked at this past summer, but dealing with some other players, Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Arctic Cat, if you have a work order that was started before warr expired for the same problem they will cover it. Now all you have to do is get the shop to start a claim and if they do not have manuals, they should call the tech support line and explain whats going on to them (further documentation on the issue) and tech support should assist them. Just remember its not Walmart... no they are not going to send a new motor, its cost prohibited, they would rather auth the shop warr. time (flat rated no less) to make the repairs, even though for example flat rate on a Honda ATV Rancher 350, engine rebuild was like only 6.6 hours and takes a competent mech more than 6.6 hours to remove/teardown/order whatever parts are needed/rebuild/reinstall back into machine and reassemble the plastics and such. Myself I submitted the estimate (yes Honda wanted a estimate, more time invovled into the darn thing) to included everything I could find in the flat rate codes that was also part of the repair. r/r fuel tank, r/r engine, r/r cylinder ect ect to get more time for the shop This was all to repair a bad engine case half, that a helicoil would have done by just pulling the cylinder and making repair, but the customer had the attitude he wanted it done right and Honda said ok. BTW we had machines that would run just fine and do everything the customer complained about.. another Honda that would miss and back fire after it was warmed up, or when the oil cooling fan kicked on depends what day you talked to the customer. (yes one of those) Funny I rode the damn thing around, my Honda tech rode it all over, then we used it as the shop bitch, shop was across the street from the sales floor/parts department, let it run till it was hot outside... The machine ran fine, had a little lazy shifting on the auto shift, but the complaint was the engine misses and back fires. Anyway your trouble sounds electrical to me. In the past month I've placed two orders with Arrowhead, Progressive forks and handlebar risers; standard shipping. In both cases the parts were in my mail box two days after placing the order! How do they do that? It's almost if they know what I'm going to order and already have it boxed and addressed? I've checked my place for bugs so I'm pretty sure they're not tied into homeland security somehow OK Fred; what am I going to order next? KLR650.com is also very, very good but it takes three days (which I thought to be the absolute minimum possible time) to get their stuff and they're 1000 miles closer? What an extremely pleasant change they both are from the usual drop shippers who email a shipping notice immediately but don't actually put whatever it is on a truck for several days.
