new member's question about 2008 klr

Hello everyone,
I am new to this group, but I think I was a member some 7 years ago
when I used to own a 2000 model. I went through three different bikes
since then and I am returning to the KLR650 "family" as I figured the
KLR is best suited for my driving needs (one just has to learn the hard
way 
).
My question/issue is if the 2008 model with all its improvement is
worth the extra money, as one can get pretty nice recent KLRs for much
less. I know I am supposed to go/search through the old posts but you
guys are so healthy active with thousands of posts that to find the
info is quite an undertaking.
Could somebody point me to any specific posts dealing with that matter?
I did search the internet so I know what all the "official" testers are
saying, but I was rather interested in users/riders oppinions.
