I haven't crossed over yet, but I'm doing some research. Love my
GSPD, but am finding it a bit of a load to pull out of the bushes by
myself these
days. I'm looking into something a bit lighter and even more off
road oriented. The KLR 650 seems to have the history, aftermarket
wares and community
that I so greatly appreciate with airhead BMW's. This list seems
well attended and well spoken, and I'm picking up the kind of info
that I'm looking for.
Haven't seen a good seat thread yet though.
What's the cats ass's preference in KLR650 seating? Russell? The
stock seat I've sat on seems way to narrow for all day comfort.

Well... I don't know about the cat's arse.... ;~)
Russell Day Long makes a good seat - too fancy for me. Sargent allegedly
makes a good seat, but every one for the KLR is custom and different. There
have been a number of posts about modifying the stock seat. Looks pretty
easy and is very inexpensive.
I've tried the Corbin flat seat. Very good improvement over stock. I just
installed Corbin's newest seat for the KLR -
http://www.corbin.com/kawasaki/klrhpyt.shtml - and think even the cat would
like it. I've only got about 200 miles on it, but really think it's hot
stuff!!! The curve up at the back gives good back support, and the Corbin
seats mold to your own individual buttocks over time. Doesn't have any
tendency to pinch "the boys" as has been reported by some on their "dished"
seat.
Hope I don't sound like a commercial, but I really do like the seat!!! My
buddy and I are headed off on Sept 8 for as much of the the Great Divide
Ride we can do from south to north in a little over a week. I'll be able to
tell you a whole lot more about the seat on or after Sept 17.

Just rode in from the dealer getting my 600 mile service. They didn't have
any of the factory bags available yet. I was looking at the Kawi Tail bag.
I am exploring my farkle options, and asked the dealer how much the side
panels and radiator cost for replacement parts - Dealer quoted me 150 a side
on the plastic, and 600 for a replacement radiator. Bags went down on the
priority and a set of Happy Trails nerf bars moved up.
