I've lurked on this forum for a long time and have learned a great deal from many of you. I am now in my time of need.... 05' KLR, 14,000 miles While riding the other day, I reached for the clutch, pulled, and the clutch lever went to the bar with no resistance. I thought I had a broken clutch cable. However, that's not the problem. I'll do my best to describe it. Using the clutch diagram at http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/400_0479/clutch/clutch.cfm? man=ka&groupid=6320&parent=6210. The engine-end of the clutch cable attaches to the lever on the #13102 RELEASE-COMP-CLUTCH. Internal to the engine, this thingy engages with a #46102 rod which is involved with releasing the clutch. I removed the clutch cable from the lever on the#13102 and find that there is no tension when I pull on the lever. I opened the right side of the engine and everything looks fine. No noticeable wear on either the #13102 or #46102. I do find that I can pull the #46102 rod in/out about a 1/2 inch or so from the center of the clutch housing. Should this rod be tensioned by the clutch spring and not easily pulled? Any ideas on the cause of this problem? I've pulled the #13102 out and tried to reseat it per the OEM manual. It does not seem to engage even after a couple of attempts. Incidentally, I cleaned the oil screen of the usual spaghetti. No serious blockage. Just strands of sealant and chunks of hard rubber.
