solve this and win a ride on the famous klr

I'm still trying to solve this problem short of tearing apart the carb.
Here are the symptoms or checking the valve clearance:
SYMPTOMS:
1. Starts and idles fine when cold (with and without choke).
2. Runs fine until the engine warms up and then begins to miss but only
at steady speeds - especially over 4,000 rpm. It doesn't miss when
accelerating
3. Will not idle after the engine warms up and misses at steady highway
speeds
Here's what I've done:
1. New gas
2. Healthy shot of Sea Foam in fuel
3. Checked all hoses and connections and replaced some of the weaker
clamps
4. Removed and disasembled petcock and thoroughly inspected and cleaned
including screens.
5.Replaced spark plug
6. Swore a lot after putting everything together and finding out the
problem is still there. Help!

Will,
My guess is going to be a bad coil, coil wire/end, coil electrical
connection or bad CDI. In that order.
Note those are just guesses.
Good luck,

I'v just gone as far as Jeff's opine and have a world of respect for his
experience and opinion. But, the fact that the temp makes a diff leads me
to believe the engine will tolerate a very rich mixture when cold but can't
digest that mixture when hot. I'd be inclined to believe its a carb
problem. I'd yank that carb off and dissect it for problems or sub another
carb to see if it still does the same thing. This is worth what ya paid for
it!! Good Luck.

scottoiler

I am satisfied with the Scottoiler. Have put the RMV behind the number plate
for easy access and refilling. They give the best after market service I
have found in any dealer. I ordered directly from Scottoiler Scottland. Easy
to install. The best feature is that it keeps the chain clean, not just
oiled. With the traditional system I oiled the dirty chain every 500kms and
I do not think that this method maintained the chain in good condition. And
the worst, after the lubing I had for several kms a very dirty rim. Now it
is much better.
