Its my belief that when a person is speaking in a language other than their own that the listener should cut the speaker some slack. I'd like to think that if we were eye to eye Jacobus would be smiling and showing his intent through body language in a manner that would leave no doubt as to his meaning. Ecom doesn't allow that--hence the smilies and other emblems (sign language if I may) to further that communication. Please lets not be less than we could to those who would be riding buds in any other circumstance. The Ugly American. Ben, the Forest Service and BLM both have very good maps showing dirt roads that are available from many retailers (like REI) however buying many maps can get pricey. The maps are much less expensive if bought from the FS or BLM. Central and northern Idaho have some great routes crossing mountains and ending in Montana Magruder Corridor http://web.camasnet.com/~elkcity/magrudor_corridor.htm , the Lewis and Clark trail and the North Fork of the Clearwater routes in the Clearwater National Forest, and the St. Joe River in the Panhandle National Forest (options for abandoned RR tunnels and trestles). There are some great desert routes across southern Idaho as well as northern Nevada and Utah. I hope you have a great trip. E-mail me directly if you want more info.
