Hi, I just did 185 miles on 3.75 gallons. Mostly highway miles. That is about 49 MPG. I am 210 pounds. Need to lose about 15 pounds. Too much beer. Andy (Columbia, MD) Jim Douglas wrote:

Are you actually measuring your gas consumption or just guessing at it based on when you hit reserve? I wouldn't trust Kawi's estimation of reserve capacity any farther than I'd trust their weight figures. __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Jim Douglas wrote:

And as others have noted, you can adjust where reserve hits by lengthening or shortening the main pickup. Just make sure to keep the function of the filters if you mess with the pickups. This last December I got a small gas can that I could strap to the back of the bike and did a range test. This is with California winter gas and that tank included a lot of small trips, but the results were: Hit reserve: 233 miles Out of gas: 277 miles I did not record what my miles per gallon where on that fillup, but I generally get 49-55 miles per gallon when I bother to check. I had checked the reliability of the odometer with the original tire but have not re-checked it with the IRC GP110 that I have now. I do suspect that it is pretty darn close to the stock. As others noted, the odo is very close to perfect, with the speed reading about 10% off. -- Doug Herr doug@... A16 in Oakland, California

KLRs respond generously to sedate riding. I typically get 48-50 mpg with a mix of city and freeway riding (65-75mph on the freeway), and I've gotten 55+ while plonking down dirt roads for extended periods of time. Ride it hard, and a KLR's mileage will drop into the 30's. KLR-- the bike of unlimited possibilities. __Arden
