broken carb? (new 2007)

I purchased my new 07 KLR last month. I took it in for the 600 mile
tune-up / valve check last week, however yesterday afternoon it just
died without warning.
Apparently there was a pin in the carb that wasn't disengaging, causing
the float to stick and prevented fuel from passing through.
They say it was nothing I did, and something they've never seen (which
after 20+ years I find that hard to believe.) They're calling Kawasaki
and will be ordering a new carb. As nice as this is, I have some
"reliability" concerns.
I wanted to throw this out to the real "KLR Pros" (you all) to see if
you've heard of this happening, and if so why? What can I do to prevent
this from happening again?
Thanks!

Will replacing the stock thermal flasher with a Tridon HD-12 electronic
flasher allow the use of LED turn signal lights without needing a load
equalizer?
thanks,
