dohickey adjustment

Hi all! Newbie rider here, just reached the 500 mile service interval
on my 07' so i decided to try to adjust the balancer chain adjuster.
Made the adjustment according to the service manual recommendations.
Now it makes a knocking noise on start-up, and it didn't before i
messed with it. Any ideas? Seems like the noise is only there while
the starter button is pressed. Thanks
