is a 160 main too rich for open pipe?

I'm talking keihin jet numbers here, not dynojet. Stock needle, stock pilot, adjusted pilot screw, twinair filter, no snorkel, a few airbox holes. My pipe is a straight-through glass packed type, like a Big Gun. I think the 160 is a bit too rich, as it smokes rich when I squeeze it. What's everybody else running with an open pipe? My wideband is sitting here in a box waiting for me to make a TPS and a bung, but until then, it may be worth leaning it out a little.

With a de-tweetyfied stock muffler I run a 148 jet and have shimmed the needle with two tiny washers. Curious why you choose a straight through pipe like the Big Guano ? Bogdan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Mine has stock exhaust, snorkel removed, inlet air screen removed, No-Toil air filter and 160 main jet. Good mileage, no indications of over rich or lean bog, but have yet to use an exhaust gas analyzer. It runs so well and I'm lazy. HIH Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Norm, did you notice any difference in power output or drivablility after those mods? Ross

Big Guano. Very clever. My bike came with it. It's louder, but it gives the bike more go. I have a mostly stock KLR with a stock pipe that has an opened up endcap, a KL600 trans and 15/43. The one with the open pipe also has the KL600 trans and 16/42. Although you'd expect the one geared lower and closer to stock gearing to be quicker, they are pretty evenly matched off the line. So the pipe allows it to perform the same off the line, with gearing that lets me go 80 (on the speedo) just under 5000 RPM.
