Dan,
Below is my reply from last Friday. I tried to also send it straight to
you but it got rejected.

Dan,
I've never worked on a KLR250 but checking the headbolt torque makes
sense to me. On airhead BMW engines headbolt torque gets checked a few
times between top end jobs and also right after a top end is put together
and again at about 500 miles. Now you've got me thinking about why we
don't do it on the KLR650. : )
Seems if you are gonna be in the top end it would only take a few extra
minutes, maybe 20-30???, to pull the cams and oil delivery tube, check
torque and reinstall the oil delivery tube and cams. But that's just me
guessing here since I haven't been in the engine.
On airheads you loosen the head bolts about 1/4 turn, one at a time, and
retorque to 25 foot pounds. There are only 6 bolts on a side and nothing
has to be removed once the valve cover is off. Probably adds about 2
minutes to the valve adjustment job.
It'll be interesting to hear if you decide to check the torque or not.
