Hello there! I just bought a HOT green 2006 KLR 650. I have a tank bag, superbrace and extra tall windshield. I am looking for nice side bags for the rear and any other cool accessories. Does anyone have any good accessory websites? Also, what's the deal with the Doohickey? Is it worth getting the aftermarket kit to replace it? Thanks for the advise in advance, Brian

Brian Glad you could join the club. The KLR is a great bike and you will love it. First off the Doohickey is a subject of question. Personaly if I find out that there is a minor problem with something that could cause major problems I fix it and fix it right the first time. I say it's a subject of question due to the inconsistancy of when it decides to break on you. Some people have gone years with no problem, some have only gone a few hundred miles and had the break so bad it just about killed the engine. Do your self a favor buy the kit and change it out it only takes a couple of hours and once done your balancer will function better then stock and it will never fail. As for web sites these are the ones that I have found either by lisenting the guys here or looking on my own. They are a mix of sites that supply luggage or engine parts and other stuff. Dual-star.com Happy-trail.com multisurfacemotorcycling.com/klr650_page.htm wolfmanluggage.com angelfire.com/ut/moab/index.html (Arrowhead Motorsports) KLR650.com rageperformance.com Race-tech.com And the best bed time reading bigcee.com/klr650faq.html Advice for ya Change your oil often, clean and oil the chain every 400 miles or so, check all bolts nuts and fasteners, use blue loctite on everything that doesn't require antiseize. Get gel grips, And if you do nothing to the carb at least open the pilot screw to 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out. this will make the bike start with a lot less choke or none at all. and will not hurt you milage. You simply cannot go wrong dealing with Fred. Fast, efficient, extremely knowledgeable about the KLR... http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com/

it worth getting the aftermarket kit to replace it? I've written so much on the subject that I'm weary of it. The Doo is the idler shaft drive chain tensioner adjuster. It breaks on some KLR's while it's spring breaks on far more. Do the replacement. Eagle Mike (available from Fred) has just released a torsion spring which is used in place of the coil, tension spring. Mike's coil springs don't break like the Kawi spring. Hook up with KLR's in your area for a tech day to do the Doo. That way you will get the job done at no labour cost and meet other owners which is part of the experience. Check the archives for much discussion regarding what needs to be done on the KLR. IMO replacing the glass tube type fuses with ATO fuses in sealed holders is a must. At least replace the 10 amp fuses with 15 amp in case you manage to hold the dimmer switch in the centre for too long it is just possible to blow the headlight switch. (This is not just a KLR possibility). Mostly the fuses and the Doo are the must do things IMO. On the other hand, mine has over 70 modifications so there are lots of things you can do. Mostly, run Rotella oil, change it as recommended and don't post oil questions as it has been beaten to death. HIH Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Wash my KLR? Why??? That takes time. Time I could be riding. Now degreaser is another thing. That can lead to problems that remove riding time. I use carb cleaner and Super Clean.
