tire stuff

A rolling tire will be warm and flexible as opposed to the one in your home garage. You should be running 32-35 PSI if you are running on the road. You can get by with less in the dirt if you have the rim locks but they should be reinflated for the road. If the tire slips, the valve stem will be ripped out. I carry a spare tube and also patches for minor leaks and still am iffy about using slime or berrymans. mike in Ok Mike Truel, RETIRED! tire stuff

For what its worth a racer/machanic I know who happily spends most if his spare time fine tuning the suspension & tire setup on his fleet of bikes recommended to me that for road riding I should lower the pressure from the setting you recommended to 26 psi in the front and 28 psi in the rear. Not having any better ideas of my own I followed his advice over 5k miles ago and have been quite satisfied. The tires seem to grip well leaned over to the edge of the tread (Pirelli Scorpion A/T tires) and it is not as twitchy in the highway as before. Incidentally, leaned over to the edge of the tread the tires at that pressure leave black marks on the road (especially the rear as it drifts about a foot to the outside), but haven't completely given way yet.
