I don't know about your area but in CT. after about 3:00 in the afternoon, you don't want to be riding west. The sun is so low in the sky that I have found it impossible to shield my eyes. I have a full face mask helmet and wear sunglasses underneath...no good. I have pushed the helmet forward so it come down further on my forehead but still too much sun. I am thinking of picking up a piece of that glass tint material that is used in cars and running a strip of it across the top edge of the visor for additional shading. Comments? What have you done that works?

For years I've used two slightly overlapping strips of electrical tape
across the top of the face shield. Takes a bit getting used to, but works
great. Costs nothing to try it.

A Strip or 2 of black electric tape along the top of the shield works great.
It is on both of my helmets

I know what you mean when you talk about the suns declination at this
time of year. A med-helo trip, 0830 departure on a course of 143 for
160 miles is just brutal! Likewise at 1630 KLR trip with a westerly
heading, you are basically blind until the sun sets, and then...you
are COLD and playing dodge ball with the deer!
For your bike problem, have you tried: a strip of black electrical
tape across the top of the visor and the roll of tape in your tail
bag--that will give you a good start at a temporary visor. If one
strip is not enough, open the tail bag and add another strip. The
tape can be removed later.

Friends with Arai XD helmets (with shield & visor) tell me they have
none of these problems. But since I still can't force myself to fork
over $450-500 for one, for late afternoon riding I wear a little
beanie bike hat with sort visor (like the old Tour-deFrance riders
used to wear). Fits nicely under the helmet and I don't have to cope
with the reduced view from tape the rest of the time.

I put a JC Whitney visor on my street helm. It's attached to the face
shield.
No issues to report.
