ExpressMail HTML Filter ver.2.0 1995-98 (c) OpenSoft Corp. Does anyone have specifications, or first hand experience, regarding the ability of the KLR to handle an electric vest? I have an electric vest that is 45 watts, and don't want to find myself warm and stranded. If I can ride my KLR all winter then I'm sure I will achieve [b][i]Motorcycle Zen[/i][/b]!

ExpressMail HTML Filter ver.2.0 1995-98 (c) OpenSoft Corp. there have over the last few years been many discussions regarding the ability of the electrical system on the klr to handle a vest, chaps, etc. check the archives. my personal experience is that i haven't yet burned out anything on mine (which is stock), and i've worn a widder vest, chaps and gloves throughout each winter in new joisey. how comforting. four gunshots just outside my window while i'm typing this. gotta love spanish harlem... anyway, i dunno if i'm ignorant and/or lucky but at least i'm warm. _pete

I am currently using an AeroStitch electric vest (45 watts) on my A14 for a month now and have had no problems. Be conservative and do not use you high beam if necessary also when stopped in traffic at idle, switch off your vest to lessen the load on the battery. I believe that the electrical system although wimpy, can handle the vest with out any problems. Remember to check your battery (water & charge) every month. Thirty degree commutes in the mornings will be a thing of the past. I keep telling my Harley riding co-workers, YES I am a sissy but I am warm

If any one is really interested I will do a long term winter test on the electrical system and electric accessories and post them to the KLR site. Let me know?

I can tell you that the KLR will handle a higher wattage headlight, heated gloves and vest (both Widder) with no problems. I use the on/off switch on the vest/glove combo instead of a thermostat. I've never had a battery die on me, but I do replace my battery every 30 months or so whether it needs it or not and yes, I'm, sold on sealed, maintenance free batteries. So stay warm with no worries. Gino

Hello. My husband recently bought a KLR and in light of the holiday season, I would like to purchase an electric vest for him. Are there any recommendations or preferences among the group? I am looking for advice and guidance as to the best product to purchase as well as any "accessories" which may be required (I know he doesn't have a "cigarette lighter adapter thing-sorry for the non-technical verbage), I assume this is needed to power the vest; your input on this subject is welcome as well. I think this could easily turn into something like the oil thread, but *my* choice is Widder, http://www.widder.com/ I originally bought a Widder vest when I had a GoldWing, and it STILL works just great, and with no problems. I have a friend who still owns a 'wing, and swears by his Aerostitch vest: http://www.aerostich.com/riderwearhouse.store I believe you'd be safe with either choice, and probably others. The Gerbing products are excellent. You may also want to consider heated grips. You can see the Gerbing vests at http://www.gerbing.com/Pages/jl.html Also consider the Heat-Troller to automatically control the temperature...worth every penny. Where does this guy find a wife that not only lets him ride but cares if he's cold? Spoiled Rotten! Anyway, good for you, and keep me in mind if he doesn't appreciate you!! For vests (and maybe heated grips too - very nice), look at https://www.aerostich.com/riderwearhouse.store , they list the vests under "electric vests, liners and gadgets" they also stock a number of power attachments to draw juice from the bike, same location. A thermostat is also very nice (I wish I was talking to my wife...), same store, look for "Heat Troller". Good Luck! Dan Barney PS.
