Went camping in Coalmont (small town in BC) this Thanksgiving weekend (that's right, we have a different Thanksgiving up here in igloo land). Went riding up to the coal mine, where the ground turned greasy beyond belief(apparently due to Bentonite in the ground). Could barely ride the road cause it was so slippery, and got my tires and frame totally gummed up. Engine started missing and then quit. Would run a little at low RPM's when jump starting down hills, but then quit when I gave it throttle. Finally, my buddy wouldn't help push the KLR beast up any more hills, and headed back to camp to get an ATV to pull me back. I sat by the side of the track, and started picking out the gumbo. When I got to the right hand side of the bike, I disloged a huge pile of goo, and saw that little mud-filled clear plastic tube appear. I remembered words of advice from this very forum. A quick squeeze of the tube to clear the little sucker had the big Azteck purring like a kitten again. (I rolled the rest of the way home with the engine off, so I wouldn't have an 'incident' with my buddy who was barrelling his way around blind corners to come and rescue me) I think the Y fix is in order (another job to add to the winter list) The clear tube is a carburetor breather, and when that gets clogged with mud, or submerged in deep water, the engine gets cranky and doesn't want to play anymore. Anyone know who sells the 'Y' adaptors?
