I just put a Clearview 16" shield on my A-15 a few days ago and though some may like to know how it works. I had the Kawasaki 'tall' screen on when I bought the bike new - think it's made by National Cycle - well, had a lot of turbulence and wind noise with it so I finally sold it and ended up riding with no windshield at all. With Winter coming fast, I decided to try the Clearview as it was about 4 or 5 inches taller then my previous tall screen. When the screen came I was impressed with the fact that it was made from a much heavier plastic/lexan then any other screen I have had before - on any bike. Well, this screen works - not much turbulence and some wind noise, but I wear ear plugs anyway (and we all should) so the noise isn't much of a bother. I have found that I can ride to work and never close the shield on my Shoei R700 - didn't remember that it was up in one instance because there was no wind or turbulence to both with. This thing really keeps the wind off my chest and that's what I was looking for - this shield wasn't going to be on the bike for warm weather riding, but now I may have to re-think that. The bike now reminds me of my old 92 BMW R100GS that had a Parabellum shield on it - road it that way for 60k miles. I am getting some vibration 'buzz' as I go up and down thru the rpm's but I think I can fix this with some rubber tape that I have - think I will use some other bolts on it too but I have to go looking for them at the local auto store. All-in-all I am very pleased with the shield. Al Maurine Shoreview, MN A-15

I have had the Clearview +11 for about a year now I love it,I prefer a open face helmate over a full face,although I have both,the tall screen works for me. Roy Cope

Al. Are you looking through the screen, or over the top of it? I disagree with the statement that we all need to use earplugs. I don't like to tune out any of my senses while riding. I think manufacturers need to do a better job of making helmets and windscreens, personally. I don't think you needed the NKLR? Jon

Jon, I have to disagree about earplugs. Ear damage is irreversible. At the present state of technology for helmets, windscreens, and hearing aids, I think we should all wear earplugs on rides of a half-hour or more, and I don't believe that the highway noise attenuation from earplugs makes much difference if you use your eyes correctly. It's pretty hard to hear a car behind you with the wind blasting in your ears, so why not use your eyes and save your ears? I personally find that by wearing earplugs I don't get as fatigued while riding, so I can ride farther more safely and my ears don't ring at the end of the day. The way I see it, you can either ride with earplugs now or ride hearing-impaired in the years to come. Arden Kysely A11 "Mr. K"

Thanks for the report Al. Much appreciated. One question though... how tall are you? I'm 6'2" and in the process of prepping my '04 for freeway commuting. A tall windscreen is on my shortlist. I took the stocker off a few months back and it's been okay for around town riding but I don't like it at 55+mph. In addition to the Clearview, I'm also looking at the Parabellum http://www.parabellum.com/stores/showdetl.cfm? &DID=22&Product_ID=52&CATID=1 , and the Slipstream Universal, http://www.slipstreamer.com/Product/Universal/universal.html . I've seen some folks mention these but noone has provided a report like you have so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on a $200 piece of farkle. It seems like things are out of balance. You said your wife is from Nicaragua and now is(presumably) living in the US. The constant influx of immigrants is bound to upset population dynamics further North. A comment regarding windshield height. Most posters refer to their height which is not pertinent to the windshield comparison issue. When comparing windshield information the personal dimension required is the distance from the seat to the tip of the nose and/or top of the helmet. This measurement removes the leg length from the dimension since it is not pertinent. Just in case it helps, Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
