Hmmm, no replies; I guess this isn't a controversial topic like some others. :-) I favor the Utah Cycle Sport one sold by Arrowhead, as the ears on it reportedly cover a little more of the water pump. I won't be able to compare it with the Happy Trails one until I meet up with Matt at Pyramid Lake on 9/2, though. Mine went on easily and fits quite nicely (wish I could say the same about hand guards!). It does change the sound of the bike a bit, though. My first ride or two I thought it was rattling a bit, but it turns out that its just reflecting more sound from the engine at me. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA)

Good suggestion! I don't know if I'll have time to do it before the trip, and after listening to it for 3,000 miles I'll probably get used to it, but if not I'll keep your email handy. One thing I had to do to both skid plates is grind a bit of a hole so you can get a socket direct in to adjust the chain balancer. Other than this little point, the plates are rock solid.

I've been in many states over the last 3 years and met many cops. No stops for the modulator. But, even if I did get a ticket, I would chalk it up to experience. It's just that good at keeping you out of wrecks. Just think of the cases where people made left turns in front of riders and said they didn't see them (me, 1965). The only negative is that 3 people have pulled over to let me pass thinking that I was some sort of new emergency vehicle. I think they'll be standard equipment someday. don a17
