I think I read somewhere that the Avon Gripsters are somewhat taller than the OEM Dunlops. I'm considering getting a set (I'll be doing a long trip mostly on [crappy] paved roads and gravel, little real off road), partially because of their longevity. Does anyone have experience putting these on with a Dual Star fork brace? Any problems?

You might try some automotive anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads. This alleviated a similar noise issue for mine. You may wonder why I felt it necessary to specify the back of the pads...... Yes, people do sometimes put that anti-squeal paste on the friction side to bad effect.
