I missed the event this year and have been out of town all week. But when I cranked up my digit-machine I saw no stories. Did I miss the write-ups? Pat M

In a word: hot. Near record breaking temperatures when we were there. I drank almost eight liters of water on the White Rim Trail and was still a little dehydrated. I even drank two liters of 120 degree water proffered by the Park Ranger. Sucking down water the temperature of bath water took some real hydration discipline. I'm not sure if I am finally learning to ride in sand or if my new Dunlop Rally Raid front tire is just a great sand tire. But either way I motored thru some sandy areas that would have terrified me on earlier trips. Too bad Dunlop does not make it to fit a 17 inche rear. Other highlights: changing a tire on a horse trailer while sitting on an anthill in 110 degree temperatures. Thankfully Aerostitch Darien pants proved to be antproof. We also made it over to Canyon de Chelly and had a chance to see some of the back country in the Navajo Nation compliments of a fatal motor vehicle accident cum crime scene closure of US 191. The only "black scoop system" on my KLR is molded into the IMS tank: http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/images/imstank.jpg Fred at Arrowhead Motorsports has them. I think the larger tank is worth it just to get rid of the hassle of dealing with the seperate shrounds. I you decide to do the Dempster Highway from just South of Dawson City, Yukon to Inuvik, NWT be advised that there is 100 miles plus of sharp shale on the Yukon side which cuts sht sh*t out of tires, especially if it is wet.
