please help with a fork question

as ridiculous as this may sound, i have broken the valve stem on my fork
cap. can this be replaced? will i need to purchase a new fork cap. i
don't want to damage the aluminium cap any further than i already have.

Jamie,
I think you could remove the broken part with a screw extractor. Or
maybe take the cap off and take it to a machine shop and ask them to
remove it. Then you'll have to get a new schrader valve to install. I
just took a look at my cap which is off the forks right now and it looks
like a normal schrader valve. I think you could maybe get one at NAPA or
possibly in the plumbing section of a well supplied hardware store. I'm
guessing here but the threads might be for an 1/8" pipe thread.

Saw a red 06 in Chapel Hill Friday evening at Columbia & Franklin
Street. Nice to be riding around on a bike of the proper color even if
the town is a little cyanotic.
